Common Ingredient Substitutions
Here are a few common healthy food substitutions that I often use while cooking/baking.
It’s so easy to switch out ingredients that aren’t that great for you with healthier alternatives and achieve the same results, if not better!
Oil for breads or muffins Apple sauce or Plain / Vanilla Whole Yogurt
Eggs for breads, muffins, pancakes, and other battered creations Egg whites or 1 tablespoon ground flax seed mixed with 3 tablespoons water, let stand 2-3 mins.
Regular pasta Whole Wheat Pasta
Baby Carrots (ICK, chlorine is added, why they eventually dry out and turn white) Whole carrots, chopped to size
All purpose flour Unbleached or Whole Wheat flour. For baked goods use half whole wheat and unbleached
Whole milk Skim milk
White Rice Brown rice, wild rice
Creamy salad dressing Delicious balsamic vinaigrette
